The cheeses of El Molí de Ger

El Molí de Ger is an aggregate nucleus within the municipality, at an altitude of 1,135 metres, located on the sunny side of La Cerdanya, about 200 meters from the banks of the River Segre. El Molí de Ger is a farmhouse that, like the place name, indicates that historically the activity of grinding wheat with stone moles was developed there, taking advantage of the hydraulic power of a bypass of the Segre River. At the beginning of the 20th century, the introduction of electrical networks made most of the mills disappear.

This activity was always combined with agriculture and livestock, and it is the latter that has survived to this day generation after generation. Currently, it is a family business that produces bovine milk of the Friesian breed to obtain dairy products, being able to control first-hand the quality of raw milk in an optimal environment for the development of the cheese activity.
